The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has come up with a surprising announcement for AFC Asian cup 2019 that they’re going to use video assistant referee (VAR) starting with the knockout stage matches of this latest football championship of the Asian continent.
The recent news of organizing this grand tournament in United Arab Emirates UAE has created a lot of buzz around the world that had made more people to book tickets for this mega sporting event.
The spectacular matches of this tournament are going to start from 5th January 2019 to 1st February 2019.
In addition to making this proposal fruitful, the organizing committee had permission from the AFC referees committee which is the sole body to take decisions regarding the matches and scoring pattern.
They’re going to use this Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for around seven matches that will be conducted at four different venues, namely: Zayed Sports City and Mohamed Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain and the Al Maktoum Stadium in Dubai.
Well, on the other hand, Asia already has some of the worlds best referees with their extreme decision-making skills in the peak time of the match. And this new VAR technology employed by the referees will stand as an additional support in making their effort to turn the tournament India grand event of this year.
If you’re confused, “the use of VAR will be in quarter-finals, semifinals and the final match which is going to happen on 1st February 2019.” – according to AFC’s official statement.
Initially, the idea to include VAR into the match was a proposal pending since long but made its way on September 26 this year and got a huge amount of support that had warmed up the efforts of the organizing committee.
And this technology was not new because previously VAR was used in the 2018 FIFA World Cup held in Russia which is for the first time. So from now on all the upcoming tournaments like UEFA champions league 2019-20 are all equipped with VAR Technology
